Exmouth mayor Steve Gazzard has visitd a care home in Exmouth to celebrate Victory over Europe, (VE) Day.
Raleigh Manor care home in Exmouth has marked the anniversary of Victory in Europe Day by creating a memory tree activity. Officiated by Mayor Exmouth, Steve Gazzard.
The home was decorated in red, white and blue and residents used the opportunity to remember those that they had lost and talk about those times by creating their own 'memory heart' for the tree. When all the memories were in place, the tree was officially switched on by the Mayor.
Residents reminisced about their memories of VE Day and engaged in a Guess Who competition by looking at photos of their fellow residents from the VE Day era and guessing who they were, and sitting right next to them!
Gill Pratt, General Manager at Raleigh Manor said: “Many of our residents can remember the end of the war and we all know what it meant for our country so we wanted to celebrate the date and listen to our resident’s memories of the war and the experiences they lived through.”
“It wasn’t easy guessing who the photos were and a very enjoyable exercise to look back and remember with them."
