A man from Lympstone has won an award after completing the Royal Marines Commando Challenge at Lympstone.
William Harvey from Lympstone won the ‘Good Egg’ award for his exceptional team spirit, help and support to other teammates. 42 ‘wannabe’ Royal Marines Commandos travelled to Lympstone this week from across the country (as well as from Portugal and Belgium) to take part in the Commando Training Challenge.
The sold-out event held at Commando Training Centre Royal Marines in Exton, raised over £18,000 for RMA – The Royal Marines Charity.
Royal Marines Commandos are an elite element of the UK Armed Forces and this event gives adventure-seeking individuals the unique opportunity to test their resolve on the Corps’ own demanding training grounds.
Participants were well and truly put through their paces by Royal Marines’ PTI (Physical Training Instructors) over the infamous Endurance Course on Woodbury Common and the physically demanding Commando Assault Course ‘behind the wire’ on the notorious ‘Bottom Field’.
RMA – The Royal Marines Charity Fundraising Manager, Vicki Drinkwater said: “Huge congratulations to Will – he showed true Commando Spirit throughout what was a really tough day for many. He was certainly a most worthy recipient of the coveted ‘Good Egg’ award.
It was really wonderful to see so many people take part in this year’s Commando Training Challenge. Everyone got stuck in to fearlessly tackle all the physically and mentally gruelling obstacles they came up against – and with a smile on their face, most of the time!
“We would like to thank everyone for their fantastic generosity in raising such a magnificent amount of money that will help fund the vital life-long services offered by the Charity to the entire Royal Marines Family.”
