Exmouth photographer, Alec-Owen Evans has been recognised as the overall winner of this year's WeatherNet calender competition.
Alec's winning image, capturing a street scene during a rainstorm was taken in Exeter city centre. The image was not only selected to feature in the 2024 calender but also judged as overall winner of this year's competition.
When judges asked how Alec captured the shot, he said: "I was waiting in the car on this particular day and as the heavy rain poured down covering the windscreen, it created a surreal almost abstract scene which I was compelled to capture. The people scurrying around and huddled under their colourful umbrellas, and the changing traffic lights and brake lights of passing vehicles lit up the scene.
This is not the first time that Alec's image has received aclaim. As a member and regular contributor to the Photocrowd online photographic community, this image received a 1st place prize in the 'Surprising Abstracts' category.
Photocrowd expert judge, Mark Mawson said: "This really has been a tough competition to judge as all entries have been really good, but this image really stood out from the others its just an average day grey rainy day made to look very interesting and has a special atmosphere around it, The pinks, reds, greens and blues really pop against the greys of the skyand wet road and pavement."
The 2023 Weather Photograph Competition opened for entries in June, WeatherNet's annual weather photograph competition allowed photographers to design its 2024 calendar.
First prize won £100, second prize £50 and the 11 Further prizes of £20. Winners(1) also receive a calendar featuring their photo and full acknowledgement on the WeatherNet website.
