Young and old residents of Budleigh Salterton and East Budleigh attended events on Remembrance Sunday, November 12, to honour those lost in wars and conflicts.
On the Sunday afternoon, wreaths were laid at the war memorial on Budleigh Salterton seafront in a short ceremony led by the Rev Martin Jaques, followed by the Royal British Legion service at St Peter's Church. Local Cubs, Scouts, Brownies and Guides joined the older residents paying their respects, who included the Budleigh Salterton Lions Club and a group of local firefighters.
Roger Bass from the local branch of the Royal British Legion said: "It was a memorable ceremony and characteristically well supported by the local community, with a large number of wreaths laid by many local organisations and groups.
"The Bicton Cadets provided a guard of honour at the war memorial.
"For the first time, we had The Last Post played by a young cornet player who plays for us every year during the church ceremony in the afternoon. This year, because people enjoy her playing in the church so much, we asked if she could come earlier and play at 2 o'clock for us, and that was an added joy. It was very moving, very well done, and added a lot of dignity to the ceremony."
