Exmouth Choral Society's next concert will be under the baton of its new musical director, Matthew Jeffrey.
The society has been singing choral music in the town since the 1890s and this is the first concert of the season. It will take place at 7pm in Holy Trinity Church on Saturday January 27.
The concert will feature a range of music that has been used to mark royal occasions, from Parry’s famous ‘I Was Glad’, to Handel’s Four Coronation Anthems, including ‘Zadok the Priest’. It includes Mozart’s exquisite Coronation Mass and there is a small nod to modernity with William Mathias’s ‘Let the people praise thee’. The choir will be joined by a quartet of local soloists and a small orchestra, for what will surely be an uplifting evening.
A spokesman for the Choral Society said: "It is well known that singing is good for your health, so if you enjoy choral music and fancy giving it a try, please come along to the first rehearsal for our new programme on Monday 29th January starting at 7.30pm at Glenorchy United Reform Church, Exeter Road, Exmouth EX8 1Pl. We will be singing Faure’s Requiem and a varied selection of other pieces."
