Devon County Council has announced temporary traffic restrictions on two roads in Exmouth starting on Tuesday, April 2.
Morton Road will be closed to through traffic until April 15 and Alexandra Terrace will have a parking suspension until May 17.
While the changes are only expected to last a few weeks, work could take up to 18 months as part of a gas mains replacement project.
The affected section of Morton Road is from the junction with Alexandra Terrace to 1 Morton Road.
An alternative route for vehicles is signposted via Victoria Road, Imperial Road, before returning onto Morton Road.
Motorists are advised to follow the signed detour and allow extra time for their journeys.
Simultaneously, the council is also putting a temporary parking suspension in place on Alexandra Terrace, between the Esplanade junction and Chapel Hill.
This will coincide with the roadworks on Morton Road, which form part of the same gas mains replacement works.
For Alexandra Terrace there is no alternative parking arrangement announced.
Residents and visitors planning to park in affected areas are urged to make alternative arrangements during the disruption.
Wales & West Utilities, tasked with the gas mains works, can be reached at 0800 9122999 for additional information on the restrictions.
These preventive measures by Devon County Council under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 are considered necessary to enable the works and ensure the safety of both workers and the public.
