Devon voters keen to know which party has won in their constituency will need to stay up through the night to find out who their new MP is.
The county heads to the polls on Thursday with the rest of the nation, and once polling stations close at 10pm, local councils kick into gear to get all the votes counted.
All of Devon’s district and unitary councils will be conducting election counts, with some authorities overseeing multiple constituencies.
Most have estimated what time they expect to complete their respective counts by. However that can change because of the size of turnout and any requests for recounts.
First to declare are expected to be Exeter City Council – which is overseeing the Exeter count at Riverside Leisure Centre – and Teignbridge District Council, which is totting up numbers for the Newton Abbot constituency at the town’s racecourse. These councils predict they will complete their counts by 3:30am.
South Hams District Council could pip them to the post in terms of completing the Totnes constituence count at Tones Leisure Centre, but it did suggest a timeframe prediction of 3am to 4am.
Next, based on the estimates, will be Mid Devon District Council, which hopes to finish counting votes for Central Devon at Lords Meadow Leisure Centre by about 4am, with North Devon Council roughly neck-and-neck with its North Devon constituency count at the Tarka Tennis Centre.
The remaining Devon counts include the Honiton and Sidmouth and Exmouth and Exeter East constituencies – which are both being counted by East Devon District Council at the Ada Lovelace Building at Exeter Science Park – and Torridge and Tavistock – being counted by Torridge District Council at the Atlantic Racquet Centre. Both authorities give a predicted completion time of around 6am.
Neither Plymouth, which is counting at Plymouth Life Centre, nor Torbay, whose counters will be at the Riviera International Conference Centre, have stated election count prediction times.
And residents in the east of the county voting in the new Tiverton and Minehead constituency will be having those votes counted by Somerset Council at the Wellsprings Leisure Centre in Taunton, which has issued a count completion estimate of 4:45am.
Devon has witnessed several boundary changes ahead of this election, making it difficult to know when constituency counts will be completed.
Tiverton and Minehead, Honiton and Sidmouth, Exmouth and Exeter East and Torridge and Tavistock are new constituencies.
