An Exmouth Community College student has scooped the Student Ally of the Year for his efforts in raising awareness on LGBT+ issues.
Charlie Moules won the accolade at the annual Just Like Us Awards on July 11.
The event celebrates outstanding allyship and advocacy for LGBT+ inclusivity in schools and workplaces.
This year, comedian Sophie Duker and activist Dr Ronx Ikharia hosted the event.
For the past two years, Charlie has been a student leader for the Pride Group at the college, running the group's activities and facilitating their move from a smaller to a larger room to accommodate an increasing number of members.
This year, Charlie brought his advocacy a step further by discussing the importance of allyship during school assemblies.
He addressed Years 9 to 11 and spoke to more than 1,200 students and staff, significantly raising awareness and understanding of LGBT+ issues.
His efforts culminated in a considerable growth in the membership of the Pride Group at Exmouth Community College.
Laura Mackay, chief executive of Just Like Us, said: "We are incredibly proud to present the Student Ally of the Year award to Charlie Moules.
"His dedication and leadership within the Pride Group at Exmouth Community College are truly inspiring.
"Charlie’s efforts in expanding the group and his courage in speaking to such a large audience about the importance of allyship have made a significant impact on his school community.
"Congratulations, Charlie, on this well-deserved recognition."
The annual Just Like Us Awards celebrate the relentless efforts of teachers, mentors, and young people who champion LGBT+ inclusivity.
