National Trusts across Devon are encompassed with trees turning red, orange and gold as autumn approaches.

Crisp winter walks and steaming cups of hot chocolate can be enjoyed by family and friends.

This season the offers are endless with events from October half-term family trails to Heritage Open Days, also writing workshops and harvest weekends.

By involving yourselves in National Trust days out you contribute to the continuation of these special places for generations to come.

This autumn, events near you include:

A la Ronde - Harnessing Natural Materials for Clean Water,  September 3 (11am - 12.30pm)

A workshop exploring where our water comes from and how it's made safe to drink.

Richard Irvine, a Devon-based practitioner and outdoor education specialist, will be leading this 90-minute workshop for adults and families with children over 10 years old.

The use of natural material from A la Ronde will be used to answer questions and highlight the importance of water.

Water's necessity for our well-being is mostly forgotten day-to-day. It is essential for our survival and health, and a basic human need.

However, 25 per cent of the worldly population doesn't have access to safe drinking water.

The workshop will include creating giant water filters that will be tested and modified in order to purify dirty water.

The workshop will take place outdoors, so be prepared for all weather conditions.

This event is free, with normal admission prices applied. Book via the website to claim a spot. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/devon/a-la-ronde

Branscombe – Heritage Open Days at Manor Mill, September 11, September 13, September 15, 1-4 pm

Manor Mill will open its doors for three afternoons as part of Heritage Open days, including free entry.

This event allows you to step back in time and experience the Victorian Watermill and the reminiscent atmosphere it creates. Witness the wheel rotate, the cogs turn and the sounds and vibrations that a miller 150 years ago would be surrounded by. A miller's costume will be available to try on, with the opportunity to grind a quern and spot the rats (fake).

Parking for this site is available at Branscombe village hall or the small National Trust car park next to the Forge.

There are no facilities on site, the nearest toilets being at Branscombe village hall car park.

This event is free, and no booking is required. For more information visit www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/devon/branscombe
