October half term is just around the corner, offering a much-needed break for students and a chance for families to reconnect.
Can it really be six weeks since I was writing about going back to school?
As a former teacher, I always appreciated these short breaks as a reset, marking the halfway point in the school year.
As a parent, half terms were a golden opportunity for family time and outings, and I hope many of you plan to make the most of this break, too.
With the weather cooling down, I find myself favouring the October half-term for its crisp walks in places like Haldon Forest or Dartmoor, where the changing leaves provide a lovely backdrop.
A simple picnic in the car with hot chocolate can transform a regular day into a memorable outing.
This year, however, there are plenty of organised activities to keep families entertained.
Exmouth Library has a host of free sessions on offer, including Lego, Coder Dojo, and games clubs, along with craft sessions, which require pre-booking.
Charlie's Beach School at Sideshore is also buzzing with activities, from the Starfish Explorers weekly group for under-fives to mini-first aid sessions for children aged three to eleven.
These sessions, priced at £5, are a fantastic investment in your child's safety and knowledge.
Half term this year also coincides with Halloween, so local pumpkin-picking activities at Darts Farm and Greendale are a must.
Greendale is also hosting a free pumpkin trail, a bonus for families.
World of Country Life and Crealy are getting in the Halloween spirit before closing for winter, offering fun-filled days out.
As the October half-term approaches, I encourage you to embrace the opportunity to spend quality time with your family.
So much to do, your children will need another break to recover from this one!
But I suppose that means we are one step closer to Christmas!
