East Devon District Council has announced some changes coming into force in some car parks in East Devon from this Friday (November 1).
For £2, from Friday November 1 to Monday March 31 2025, you can park for up to four hours in most short-stay car parks, or up until midnight in all other East Devon District Council (EDDC) car parks.
The short-stay car parks with a four-hour limit In Exmouth are Imperial Road, London Hotel and Exmouth Town Hall. In Sidmouth, Ham East, Ham West, Roxburgh and Mill Street and in Honiton, King Street.
EDDC say these rules have been added after 'listening to feedback from residents about the winter offer in previous years, EDDC is introducing changes at some of the council’s busiest car parks.'
Councillor Sam Hawkins, EDDC's portfolio holder for Finance, said: “I’m delighted that we’re continuing the popular £2 parking offer this winter. The council has reviewed how car parks were used during the previous offers and this year’s changes will make it easier for residents and visitors to get a cheap parking space.”
At short-stay car parks in Sidmouth, Exmouth and Honiton, a four-hour maximum stay for the £2 ticket will be introduced, and this ticket will not be transferable to other car parks.
As a result of this change, EDDC hopes that more drivers will be able to make use of the best spaces, closer to the town centres.
There is no change to the winter offer at EDDC’s other car parks.
To apply the winter offer, use the RingGo app on your mobile, entering the location code 42976 at car parks with a four-hour limit, or 42973 at sites where you can park until midnight. Alternatively, buy a paper ticket from one of the machines using either cash or card.
With Christmas approaching, EDDC also hopes that this winter car parking promotion will encourage people to support their High Street this festive season and the reduced car park charges are expected to boost trade throughout the traditionally quieter winter season.
As well as updating the winter offer, the council says it is making better use of its land. For example, 61 extra spaces were added to Exmouth’s Estuary car park in July 2024.
Mamhead Slipway, and Sideshore Car Park in Exmouth, Otter Estuary Nature Reserve in Budleigh Salterton, and Lyme Street in Axminster, are not included in the offer as they are managed by EDDC but are owned privately.
