A community allotment group is planning big changes for the future.

At their recent seasonal meeting, the Seachange community allotment group decided to buy a fruit cage to protect delicate berries like gooseberries, raspberries, and blueberries.

A group member will look into costs and Katheryn Hope will ask the council for permission to put it up.

The group also set up a three-year crop rotation plan to make the most of their space.

This year, different plots will be used for tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, and herbs; root crops; green vegetables and cabbage; and permanent crops like rhubarb, asparagus, and artichokes.

The wildlife area will also be expanded, with more flowers and a bigger pond to attract insects.

The group also decided to apply manure to fertilise the fruit trees.

They also agreed on the need for more gardening tools.

Katheryn will apply for a grant to buy these.

The group is collaborative, with jobs given out at each meeting.

However, people can also take on specific projects to learn new skills.

The group is open to new members of all experience levels.
