Exmouth Snooker League President and Chairman, John Anderson, has recovered well from a serious illness in the summer and celebrated his 90th birthday in August - still the oldest playing member of the league, he won the third frame for the Police Social Club ‘C’ 47-46 at East Budleigh ‘B’.
With Terry Brown 65-45 and Bob Alexander 55-26, they inflicted a first defeat of the season, as only Stu Laws 79-42 and David Freer 72-47 scrambled two points.
But, in their latest match, Eric James 63-33 won the opening frame before Pete Abrahams 45-36, George Webster 87(37)-57, Mike Delahaye 52-42 and Rob Pow 69-46 secured a third victory for champions Police ‘A’.
They sit 5th in the table, as Mick Jordan 64-54, Mike Delahaye 64-44 and Rob Pow 55-46 stay ahead of the Police ‘B’, who in turn remain at the foot of the table, despite wins for Terry Merrick 86-74 and Phil Rowsell 66-57.
Police ‘B’ led East Budleigh ‘A’ through Bob Horton 48-39 and David Binmore 72-30, but, the final result was a loss to Steve Vittles 85-78, followed by two remarkable recoveries from Barry Bentley 43-32 and Mark Auton 77-75.
Police ‘D’ are second but, with a game in hand. John Sharland 80-72, Craig Wilson 73-30, Kevin Proctor 71-63, Dave Lance 48-12 and Iain Callander 73-60 took maximum points from East Budleigh ‘A’ before losing to leaders, East Budleigh ‘B’. Craig Wilson 60-41 and Kevin Proctor 64-41 were denied a match win by David Freer 59-45 and Jamie Gulliford 74-54 and 56-53.
