Topsham RFC ran in a sensational 12 tries in a 74-14 demolition of Plymstock Albion Oaks and a performance that had the home support purring with admiration.
Combined with results elsewhere in the division, Topsham closed the gap at the top of the table and the ingredients are already coming together for what should be a thrilling end to the rugby season.
Ethan Barnaschone, Joe Cave and Robin Edbrooke all scored twice, while further tries were notched by Henry Batty, Lewis Webb, George Holwill, Aled Rosser, Marcus Cottle and Tom Oxland.
Unfortunately, it was a tougher weekend for Topsham 2nds, who saw their hopes of a top two finish take a hit with a 25-0 at the Old Technicians in Plymouth. Topsham never really got started in the game and were punished by some clinical rugby from their hosts, but will take heart from four of the next five being played at home.
