After the long spells of rain that blighted much of early Spring, it was delightful to open the new season at Phear Park Bowls Club with the traditional President's Day.
President Liz Nelson ready opened the day for a group of enthusiastic bowlers and the fun started with a Spider competition where everyone stands at the edge of the green and bowls one wood towards the jack, nearest the jack wins and this event combined with the draw raising £40 for Hospicecare.
The Presidents Day competition was played over 18 ends using a yardstick with every wood within a yard of the jack scoring a point. Eight teams competed, with three tying for first place with a score of plus 12, and the eventual winners on count back were Sarah Westacott, John Whyte and David Hawkins.
It’s great to be back on the Phear Park Greens.
