Exmouth Cricket Club are enjoying a position of mid-table security in the Premier Division of the Tolchards Devon Cricket League after a three-wicket victory at lowly North Devon.
The home side defied their struggles at the bottom of the division to compile a healthy 215-8 from their 40 overs, with Abhishek Batra (78) and Jack Moore (57) doing most of the damage for North Devon.
A smart run out from Finlay Marks ended the innings of Batra and Pete Turnbull had another good innings with the ball for Exmouth, ending with excellent figures of 3-19.
The dodgy weather of last weekend reduced the Exmouth target to 166 from 24 overs and the Maer men had to recover from the early loss of their influential top three, Louis Morison, James Horler and Jason Niemand.
A fabulous 91-run partnership between Dan Pyle (66) and Marks (52) got Exmouth into a strong position and they reached the target with three balls to spare, despite the loss of some late wickets.
Budleigh Salterton slipped into the bottom two of the A Division after losing by three wickets at home to Torquay.
Budleigh struggled to 166-9 in their innings, with Max Mejzner (32), Sam Whitehead (28) and Jack England (29 no) making the only meaningful scores against a lively Torquay attack.
The reply was all about opener Ruan Terblanche, who further enhanced his reputation with a terrific knock of 87. Ed Doble, Joel Murphy and Will Oxland all took a brace of wickets for Budleigh but Torquay reached their target inside 41 overs.
On the junior scene at Budleigh, bad weather was again a major factor, writes Amelia Picton.
The U13s Plate games against Topsham was reduced to 12 over per side and good bowling from the likes of Ben Picton, Henry Russell and Alex Roper restricted Topsham to a score of 65. Roper then scored an unbeaten 25, as Budleigh got their win in the tenth over.
The U12s slipped to a defeat against Ottery, while the U15 girls edged to a narrow victory over Whimple. The U14s proved too strong for Seaton, with Henry Russell and Marcus Robinson starring with the bat. Three more wickets from the in-form Ben Picton ensured a fine Budleigh win.
