On Saturday in Division Three of the Devon & Exeter Football League, Budleigh Salterton 2nds put on an attacking display to overcome the stubborn visitors from Halwill, 6-3, writes SpursTom.
Taking a 2-0 goal lead within the first 15 minutes through Greg MacMartin and Jordan Wakefield, Budleigh were cruising before Halwill pulled one back on the half hour. The two-goal advantage was restored within a minute, Greg MacMartin getting his second. Once again Halwill came back, this time through a penalty. Jordan Wakefield too got his second to take the Robins 4-2 into the interval.
It was great end to end stuff after the break, with surprisingly only three strikes finding the back of the net. The main reason for that was the excellent display by Matthew Brown, who pulled off four excellent saves for the hosts. He was beaten once, but at the other end his team-mates Jack Manning and David Coggin added a goal each, to secure a 6-3 victory to see BSCF 2nds top of the table.
This Saturday, they travel to battle for more league points against one of their closest rivals Broadclyst, who they beat narrowly 2-1 very recently in the Bill Slee Cup.
On Sunday afternoon, the Budleigh Robinettes took a trip to the Devon County FA headquarters Coach Road ground in Newton Abbot to take on Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police in the Premier Division of the Devon Women’s Football League.
Returning home very happy following a 6-1 triumph, there was a hat-trick for Kelsey Salter, a double strike by Kirsty Brown, and Maisie Smith slotting home one. The win sees Budleigh sitting top of the table. Hopefully this will boast their confidence going into the Graddon Vending Women’s Senior Cup this coming Sunday away to Hunters District.
In the Devon Football League, Budleigh’s recent upturn in form took a slip at Mount Gould, where the Robins were beaten 2-0. Budleigh host Bere Alston United this weekend and a chance to restore that winning feeling against a side five places below them in the table.
