In a game of limited chances and midfield tussles, Budleigh Salterton went down to a single-goal defeat at title-chasing University of Exeter, writes Alan Beer.
On a crisp winter’s day, the Robins went toe-to-toe with their talented hosts and conjured their best chance early in the second half, when Oscar Walsh forced an excellent low save down at the near post by the Uni goalkeeper.
The game was then decided on 65 minutes, when substitute Callum Chalmers struck the net and, despite a valiant effort, Budleigh were unable to find a leveller. The Robins resume this weekend with a visit from North Molton.
Budleigh 2nds had a weekend off in Division Three of the Devon & Exeter League, presenting the opportunity for Witheridge to close the gap on the Robins to four points with a 6-3 defeat of Hemyock. Budleigh travel to Broadclyst this weekend.
