In a re-arranged fixture, Budleigh Salterton women defeated Westexe Park Rangers on penalties to progress in Devon FA Senior Cup, writes SpursTom.
In the first period, Budleigh showed at times why they presently occupy the top spot in the division. They were denied twice by the posts, hitting one and then the other, before eventually taking a 2-1 advantage through Kirsty Brown and Kelsey Salter.
Following the interval, the visitors were playing much better than their lowly league position suggested, equalizing in the 63rd minute, and proving to be very stubborn. Try as they may neither outfit managed to get that normal time winner.
With no extra time played, it was straight to penalties. Budleigh’s Maisie Smith took the first spot-kick (1-0), Westexe missed (1-0), Kelsey Salter fired home (2-0), Westexe converted (2-1), up stepped Tahla Williams (3-1), ‘keeper Ashley J Brown saved Westexe 3rd (3-1). Lucy Burch slotted home (4-1) and victory to Budleigh Salterton.
