Budleigh Salterton Women sit happily at the top of the Devon Women’s Football League, Premier Division thanks to some dogged defensive work at the back and two pieces of brilliance, writes SpursTom.
The visitors to Greenway Lane last Sunday for this league match were Westexe Park Rangers, who were quickest off the blocks, forcing the hosts on the back foot.
The second period commenced as the first, with the visitors on the attack, but the fighting Robinettes showed why they lead the pack, coming back with an individual piece of brilliance by Kirsty Brown, thumping her shot pass the bewildered goalkeeper on 63 minutes.
The game opened up more as corners were being forced at both ends. The second goal came from a well worked short corner from the returning Abbey Yukon to Kirsty Brown (both dead ball specialists), whose pinpoint cross was headed accurately home by Jodie Millett for a 2-0 win.
