Exmouth Town will be hoping the weather has relented as they look to welcome Bishops Cleeve to their Circle of Care Community Stadium this evening (Wednesday), kick off 19.45, writes John Dibsdall.
Their scheduled match last Saturday at Westbury United was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, with also a covering of snow, whilst our visitors suffered a similar fate at Bashley and the original date for this game also saw a postponement with the pitch frozen.
Town will go into this match looking to continue the momentum gained from the 5-0 win over Larkhall Athletic two weeks ago, which they built on with an excellent 2-1 victory at Bashley last Tuesday.
When the sides met at Exmouth three weeks ago, a free kick from the visitors was enough to settle the match and the same player from a similar position repeated the trick on forty minutes to give Bashley a half-time lead.
The home side had started well but Town gradually gained control and the goal was against the run of play with play allowed to continue despite Aarron Denny being fouled and clearly injured.
The second half belonged to Town and finally their pressure told. Deft control, the ability to ride a tackle and Ben Steer forced the ball home with 63 minutes played. Eleven minutes later and he doubled his tally with an absolute screamer of a 20-yard drive into the top corner with the ‘keeper motionless.
Thereafter good game management saw Town see out the game for back-to-back wins for the first time this season, the only blot being an ankle injury to Louis Morison that saw him miss the second half.
The three points won also saw Town climb off the bottom of the table for the first time since September and are now a point above Paulton Rovers, who were without a game this past week.
There could be goals aplenty tonight as Bishops Cleeve are one of the leading scorers in the division. Last time out, they beat Paulton 6-2 and have put six past Melksham, as well as four past Westbury, Larkhall and high-flying Cribbs but it was Town who put four past Bishops Cleeve in the reverse fixture as they recorded their first win of the season.
Town are without a game this Saturday.
