It's not often you get to celebrate friends reaching their 90th Birthday, but last week the ladies of East Devon Golf Club came together to wish a very happy birthday to two nonagenarians, writes Helen Chivers.
Pippa Norman and Barbara Mellor were joined by around 90 ladies in an afternoon of tea, cake, fizz and friendship last week and enjoyed every minute.
Pippa and Barbara are still keen golfers, playing in ladies’ competitions every Tuesday and they have had very successful golfing lives, each winning the Club’s Veterans (over 60s) Championship.
Barbara was also part of the East Devon Golf Club’s winning Sheelah Creasy team in 2013, as she approached the age of 80.
They have both claimed trophies in Devon County Veteran Ladies Golf Association (DCVLGA) competitions and the DCVLGA Vice Captain Deirdre Mackness presented Pippa and Barbara with flowers to mark their birthdays.
Congratulations Pippa and Barbara, you are an inspiration, may you continue to play golf for many more years.
