Winscombe Bowling Club has narrowly defeated Madeira Bowling Club (BC) by a margin of seven shots in a match filled with camaraderie and sportsmanship.

On July 22 at the Madeira BC, the decades-long tradition continued as the two clubs clashed in a highly intense yet enjoyable rollercoaster contest ending with Winscombe securing victory by 122 shots to 115.

Madeira's top three performers were Chris Reed, Danny Doran, and skip Dave Moody, who triumphed by a clear margin of nine shots, 23 to 14.

High praise is also due to Martin Langford's trio with Chris Smith and Geoff Furminger, who commendably won six of the last eight ends scoring 11 shots against the opposition's three, finalising a stunning win of 20 shots to 18.

What was described as 'a marvellous tea' was in store for the triumphant Winscombe team as they travelled home with the prized Ink Stand trophy.

The club is set to host the next fixture, an eagerly awaited match and an opportunity for Madeira to reclaim the trophy.

In other news, Madeira Ladies racked up two more favourable results in the Exeter & District Triples League.

Despite a close defeat at home on July 18 to Shaldon BC, Jenny Smith, Joan Cowing, and Janet Grundy stormed to a remarkable never looked back victory of 32 – 6.
