A flourish of laughter and sporting rivalry marked the immensely successful Ladies Captains Day at East Devon Golf Club.

Over 100 ladies joined the event which started with a Scotch Foursomes stableford competition, eventually finishing with a post-golf fun, lunch and prize giving.

The festivities commenced as early as 8am, with Eilidh Cameron, the Ladies Captain, sending off the golfers to their respective tees.

The players sported considerable tartan attire in recognition of Eilidh’s Scottish heritage.

The Scotch Foursomes competition, an alternate shot format, was the highlight of the day: participants took turns, deciding who would make the initial shot on the starting hole.

Top honours were claimed by Sue Burley and Sandra Pritchard scoring 40 points, narrowly edging out Jenny Dobel and Sarah Jones.

Similarly, a tight battle saw Moira Glenn and Sue Hughes scrape past Julie Burrows and Jane Stillwell to obtain third place.

Post-competition, golfers indulged in chipping and putting contests; testing their skills to secure a coveted bottle of gin and record a minimal score on the putting green.

The clubhouse later brimmed with friendly banter over a tasty summer buffet and refreshing drinks.

Later in the season, amidst a competitive atmosphere, the Club Championships took place.

The men's title was clinched by James Pickard showcasing remarkable under-par rounds.

In contrast, Lewis White bagged second place, with previous 2010 winner, Tom Woodhouse settling for third place.

The Ladies Championship, delayed due to unforeseen fog, was eventually won by Sophie Page.

The women's net prize, the Hilary Rolls Trophy, was claimed by Jenny Dobel.

In the junior category, Miles McMurdo emerged as the 2024 champion, with Ben Wilman earning the Norris Trophy for best nett score.
