Exmouth Town's home FA Cup tie against Brixham AFC was abruptly abandoned following a serious injury to Town's Jack Thorne.
At the sixty-seven-minute mark, the star striker suffered a dislocated kneecap, leading to the match being halted.
Before the incident, Town had been leading the game 3-0.
Town's goals included an impressive effort from Ollie Knowles eleven minutes into the match, followed by a striking header by Tom Bath at thirty-seven minutes.
The third goal was a successful strike by Aaron Denny in the early minutes of the second half.
Thorne was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where his injury was treated and he was later discharged.
It is hoped that the injury will not prove as severe as it was initially feared.
Before this, Town had been enjoying an unbeaten start to their season.
This included a sterling performance on Tuesday evening against Bideford.
Town dominated the first half of the game and carried a 2-0 lead into half-time.
The second half saw Bideford pose more of a challenge, but Town's defence held strong, with Frankie Phillips delivering a superb save to maintain a clean sheet.
The FA Cup tie against Brixham is scheduled to be replayed on August 21 with a kick-off time of 7.45pm.
The remainder of the season looks challenging for Town, as they face undefeated Melksham and Yate, who recently achieved a 4-0 victory at Kidlington.
Exmouth Town will also face Kidlington in the FA Trophy, providing an opportunity for revenge after last season's 2-1 defeat.
