Exmouth Rowing Club outdid themselves at the Carrick Crusade Regatta, emerging overall winners in the Coastal Rowing League.
The inaugural Carrick Crusade was arranged at Restronguet Sailing Club, where a stiff South West wind and challenging tide over a tricky 6-8km course added to the thrill, last Saturday,
Club Captain, John Houghton was among multiple race-winners from the club in the Open, Women’s, Master’s, and Mixed classes, particularly in the 50+ and 60+ age groups.
Impressive performances were also seen from the club's youngest novice crew, including twin sisters Imogen and Tilly Smith, who clinched the award for greatest female contribution to the Challenge.
John expressed his pride at his team's show saying, "We could hardly have had a stronger turnout in all age groups."
He said: "Typical of our strength was Anne Jordan, who won in the Women’s 50+ quad, Women’s 60+ single and Mixed 60+ double."
The event marked Carrick's exceptional debut as coastal regatta hosts, signifying a rising interest in the Coastal Rowing League among clubs stretching from Falmouth to Hayling Island, and even attracting competitors as far-flung as Dover and Wales.
Exmouth R.C. is now preparing to welcome eight member clubs and other competitors to its sandy shores for the Langstone Approach Challenge on September 28.
The recent regatta saw active participation from 25 of the club’s 100 members, who either raced or savoured Friday’s and Sunday’s social rowing outings in the picturesque setting of the Carrick Roads- from Trelissick to St Just-in-Roseland, St Mawes and Mylor Churchtown.
