It’s been a decent couple of weeks if you’re an Exeter City fan and the stats speak for themselves.
An impressive four wins, one draw, five clean sheets, and a massive total of 13 points gained put us at a very nice fifth in the league as we go into the next run of games.
Our most recent win was against Shrewsbury Town on Thursday.
All kinds of records were set that night.
It was a new third-tier club record of five league games without conceding.
And what a performance by our goalkeeper Joe Whitworth, who is on loan from Crystal Palace.
And he chose the right night to showcase his skills, in front of Palace Club ambassador Mark Bright.
The match was also Gary’s 100th in charge of Exeter City – it was great to see the ‘Super Gary Caldwell’ banner unfurled by the group of supporters amongst the 282 Grecians, who made the trip to Croud Meadow - they were certainly loud and proud!
And after the international break, the games are coming thick and fast, starting with our FA Cup game against Barnet on November 2.
There’s a certain irony, that when their supporters come to SJP the away stand will be somewhat familiar to them – as it used to belong to them!
It’s not the first time they’ve helped us out, either. Back in 2004, when we were threatened with a 10-point deduction due to the club's financial mismanagement, Barnet’s chairman Tony Kleanthous was the only person who voted against that happening—so we go back a long way!
Things aren’t looking too shabby over at the ECFC Women, who have four clean sheets in seven games.
Two three-nil wins over Cheltenham Town Women and Argyle Women saw them move up to fourth in the Southern Premier Division.
After their games at SJP, their next four matches will all be at Coach Road, Newton Abbot.
The club has recently launched its Fan Engagement Plan, which is something that is required of all EFL clubs.
We’re always trying to improve how we engage and involve our fans at all levels of our club.
Take a look at the plan, which is on the website, for information about how you can get involved and talking of getting involved, don’t forget to vote in the Trust elections which are taking place now.
The new trustees will be announced at the Trust’s AGM and Board meeting on November 9.
That highlight of the year for quizzers begins next week – think you’ve got what it takes to compete?
The fiendish quiz, set by Norman and managed by a team of willing volunteers, sees teams take part in the ultimate quiz football league at SJP, it’s a lot of fun, so grab some mates and sign up – to find out more email Doug Gillard on djg@ecfcst@yahoo.com
There are some spooky goings on planned for the Exeter Quay next week, thanks to our charity partner, Exeter City Community Trust who are staging a Halloween Run through Riverside Valley Park.
You can pick from 10 or five miles and fancy dress is positively encouraged!
It takes place on Sunday, October 27 – so sign up now for some ghoulish fun.
After you’ve blown away the cobwebs, you can head on down to Coach Road for the Women’s match against the current league leaders, Hashtag United.
Sounds like a perfect day, to me!
After this, they will be playing Keynsham Town at Coach Road on November 3, rapidly followed by away trips to Watford and Milton Keynes.
The men’s team have away games at Huddersfield and a quick trip up the M5 for the match against Matt Taylor’s Bristol Rovers.
Then we’re back at SJP for a run of three games; that Barnet match on November 2, Charlton Athletic on November 9 – which will also be our Armistice Day match - and Lincoln City on November 16.
